Project Description

This series of workshops addresses basic concepts in astronomy suitable to the K-8 science curriculum and based on Michigan's K-12 science objectives. These workshops were created by the SPICA Project (Support Processes to Increase Competency in Astronomy) of the Harvard/Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. SPICA materials were developed by a team which included elementary school teachers. The project emphasizes experienced-based lessons where fundamental concepts and science processes play a central role. Teachers can expect to learn how to teach these concepts effectively and will take many ideas and materials back to their classroom.

There are 4 workshops. Call for information on content.
