Our Purpose

The Comstock Public Schools' Talent Development Program is participating in the "Our Town" initiative to create a web site which provides useful and interesting information about the local community. This project gives students the opportunity to use computers to enhance and expand skills learned in the regular classroom.

Fourth and Fifth grade students from three Comstock elementary schools worked with Talent Development Program paraprofessionals for 30-40 minutes each week. Each school chose an area in which to focus their projects. (ie. Business, Parks, Geography). Students worked individually or in pairs to gather information about a particular topic of interest. Sources of information included the Internet, local histories, individuals and businesses in the community, and newspaper archives.

Students attended a field trip to K/RESA, the local educational service agency, to create the web site. Students are currently updating old pages and creating new pages at their individual schools. This is an ongoing project.
