North & South Wenke Parks

By Allyce, 4th grade, Green Meadow Elementary

North and South Wenke Park is open 8 A.M. to dusk.   Comstock residences along with fisherman and tourists use this park. Fishermen try for fish in the swirling waters.  These parks are beautiful and serene with many flowering rose bud trees.  North & South Wenke Park is located on Kings Highway 1/4 mile west of stoplight in Comstock.

History of the park

This park was named after Chris Wenke.  He had 35yrs of community service in the year 1992.  In the 1920's Boy Scouts named the park "Scout Island" and used the place for summer outings.  In 1937 & 1938, Scout Island was cut through by a new road (Kings Highway).  Scouting activities decreased.   After awhile the park commission installed some picnic tables and stoves.   At no cost to the township, the VFW made many improvements for the Bi-Centennial in 1976. Now a gazebo and a decorative light house reside at South Wenke Park.
