Marc's Marsh

This is a small-fringed gentian
Marc's Marsh is a new nature trail for families to come visit in Comstock, Michigan. You can come and take a short hike. It's not an all day thing. You can see many beautiful plants and animals.
Marc's Marsh is in Comstock Township on Lyon's Lake, just east of the intersection of East Main and 26th Street. The land was donated to the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy in January 1999 by Dr. and Mrs. Romulo Abueva, and named in memory of their son. Marc's Marsh is open all the time. According to Pamela W. Larson of the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy, Marc's Marsh is not as acidic as a true marsh. It's actually an alkali fen which means it's kept wet by mineral-rich groundwater that seeps to the surface.
Animals that live at the marsh are deer and raccoons. Some plants that live there are blazing star, fringed gentian, pitcher plant, grass-of-Parnassus, and swamp milkweed. Milkweed is important for monarch butterflies. Many butterflies use the plants and flowers on the preserve.
Marc's Marsh is a beautiful land preserve with many animals, plants, and flowers. You can take the trail and see Lyon's Lake. It is VERY beautiful there.
