We find it very offensive to use the word "squaw". It is a word that Europeans invented because they could not understand the Native people's language. The word in Pottawattomi for woman is Kwe na. Old woman is mdi=mooyenh. gook yenh na is very old woman and mandaagwe na is well groomed woman. giigaang na is young woman. So you see at no time were women ever called sqwaw bees when working. You are very mistaken. Please adjust your pages. Further to your history the Pottawattomi were driven from their lands and are alive and well today. The live in Ontario Canada and Oklahoma. Some of my ancestors were Pottawattomi. In the 1830's over 400 hundred Pottawattomi moved into southwestern Ontario from United States and live on the nearby territories or reserves as they are called by the Europeans. I would be glad to help your with your history anytime. I have spent over twenty-years studying the ways of Native people. The Pottawattomi have meeting annually in Ontario and United States and are trying to let people know about them. Please feel free to contact me anytime. Darryl Stonefish Research Director
