Comstock Schools 1960 to Present Day
This page is about the Comstock schools from the 1960's to the present day. We have interviewed several people that went to the Comstock schools since the 1960's. The number of students in the Comstock district schools went from 2749 in 1979-80 to 3055 in 1998-99.
We have found that the classrooms were no smaller than they are now. There were about 15 to 20 students in an elementary classroom in the 1970's, but in a high school or middle school classroom there were about 20 to 25 students. North Elementary has been around for 40 years. The present day North Elementary school is twice the size it was in 1958, when it was built. North Elementary had kindergarten-sixth grade and only had the two main halls we have now. The kindergarten room was where the library is now. There have been 4 additions since1958. Half the library was added on in the 3rd addition. The art and music rooms that are here today were not added on until the 4th addition.
The location of the high school and middle school was not the same as now. The middle school had the same choice of classes as it does today; Math, Science, English, Language Arts, and Exploratory. The Northeast middle school was constructed in 1973, and had only 7th and 8th grades. The principal of the middle school in 1973 was Mr. Ceville Hinman. The high school was where the Adult Ed. building is now.
