All About G.M.

General Motors Plant in Comstock
Have you ever noticed the G.M. plant while driving down Sprinkle Road? Maybe you wondered when it will close. Maybe you wondered how big it is. You might wonder how long it's been open. You might even want to hear a funny story. Read on to find these answers and more.
The General Motors plant opened in 1966. It has been open for 32 and a 1/2 years. They're planning to close June 25, 1999. They're closing because the plant is no longer needed. If you wondered how big the plant is, it is 2,000,000 sq. ft. They make doors , mufflers, frames, and much more. Their location is 5200 East Cork St. , the intersection of Sprinkle Rd. and East Cork. They have that location because it is near the highway and near the railroad. The maximum number of people that worked in the plant was approximately 3,000.
We interviewed Mr. Dave Peck to find out what a typical work day was like at G.M. Dave said, "It's very noisy and oily". He also told us that work is much slower than it was a few years ago in anticipation of the plant closing.

Here are some funny stories. A few years ago, a deer fell into one of the water tanks behind the plant. They had to rope his antlers and pull him out. Last summer, another deer walked into one of the garages. No one had to pull him out, he just trotted off.
There is a chance that when you drive by the plant next year, there might not be any cars in the parking lot. There are rumors that someone is looking at buying the plant.
