TANKS
In the 1950's amphibious tanks were tested at Campbell lake in Comstock Township.
The LVTP-5 and the LVTH-6 were tested at Campbell lake. The LVTP-5 and the LVTH-6 were 40 ton tanks. They had 810 horse power Continental gasoline engines . At Campbell lake they would test them by driving up a 3ft. verticle wall. Then the tanks would climb their way up and down a 70 percent grade and over a 10 foot trench. Then drills would be performed to see which tanks leaked. Leaky tanks would be repaired.
After they were tested, the tanks were sent acrooss the Atlantic Ocean with a three man crew. They would carry 9 tons of cargo.
