Comstock Fire Stations

(Part 2)

North Station was built in October of 1961. It is located at the corner of H Avenue and North 26 Street. Central Fire Station is located on the corner of River Street and Comstock Avenue. It was built in 1951. It was also the township hall of Comstock.

A Fire Chief of Comstock

Chief John Dunn was born in Phoenix, New York in 1919 and lived there until 1956 when he moved to Comstock and became fire chief. Chief Dunn spent about 3 years in the U.S. army serving in Europe. He participated in the famous "Battle of the Bulge".

Firemen do more than fight fires. They also rescue people and animals from car accidents and natural disasters. Fire fighting is very hard. Many fire fighters have to go into burning houses. Fires are so exciting that fire fighters forget what they're doing. Once my grandpa(Bill Cushman) was called to a fire and he couldn't find his jacket so he put an old rubber jacket on. He got burned so badly that they had to spray him with water. Fire fighters also can't go into a burning building unless the fire chief says to.
