Comstock's Government :
Past , Present, and Future
What a great town Comstock is! Despite being small (11,000 citizens) compared to other cities, we have our own government. Our government consists of a Supervisor, Treasurer, Clerk, and Board of Trustees. All of these people are working to make Comstock a better place.
The Supervisor, Treasurer, and Clerk all work full time, and the four Trustees work part time. There is also a Planning Commission, Fire Board, Library Board, and Parks and Recreation Commission.
It was another story in 1834 when the first meeting of electors was held. This meeting took place at the home of James Burnett on April 7th, 1834. Many people were working on the government. There were a Moderator and a Supervisor, along with Assessors, School Inspectors, School Commissioners, Directors of the Poor, and Highway Commissioners. Since a law was made that fences were to be five feet high and tight so twenty pound hogs could not get through, a Fence Inspector and Highway Inspectors were elected also.
Back then people weren't afraid to vote. Now, we're having trouble with people not voting. Only 25% of Comstock`s citizens actually vote. If nobody votes, we won't be able to elect our government. We hope that the next generation will carry on the tradition. VOTE!
