Have you ever seen a duck, goose, or swan? If you haven't or you want to know more you've looked at the right web page.

There are many ducks, geese, and swans in southwest Michigan.  Many of them live in lakes, ponds, and rivers. I see them every morning out my window in spring , summer, and fall.  When it gets cold they feel it and so that tells them when to migrate.  They know right away when the water freezes. In the winter I don't see them because they migrate. When they migrate they fly south in a V. Did you ever wonder why they fly in a V? They fly that way so that not all the geese get tired at one time.

When  ducks, geese, and swans come back in the spring  they mate on land close to water.  Their eggs are always unspotted. When the eggs hatch the babies will get used to the water. After about one month the babies leave the nest and start taking care of themselves.

Duck's babies hatch in the spring. When they hatch they follow their parents. Ducks are usually in the water during the day, except when they are sleeping. Ducks migrate in the fall too.  When the babies grow up the mom and dad can still tell them apart. We sure can't!
